Additional COVID-19 Testing Event in Roosevelt County

PORTALES, N.M. – The Federal Health and Human Services Department (HHSD) is teaming up with NM State officials to provide COVID-19 testing focused in the southeastern and southern part of the state in counties with positivity rates of ten percent of higher. Dr. Deborah Birx shared with local leaders on an conference call Oct. 24 the Federal Government would be partnering with the State to offer more testing in ten counties over the course of the coming weeks. The event intends to test as many people as possible, including those without any symptoms, and hopefully lower the positivity rate for Roosevelt County to a green level to allow children to return to in-person school. In Roosevelt County, this additional COVID-19 testing will begin Thursday, Nov. 5 and will run daily from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the goal of collecting 825 tests. The test are self-administered with supervision by medical personnel from the Health and Human Sevices Department and the National Guard.  The drive thru test clinic will be set up at the “Home Side” parking lot at Greyhound (1751 West University Drive) with traffic entering from West University Drive. Road Work Public Notice

The Roosevelt County Road Department will begin work on South Roosevelt Road L, from NM 114 to NM 458, Tuesday, Nov. 4. This will be the first road of several to be repaired and this project is expected to span several months. This roadway is getting basecourse (caliche) as part of joint partnership with Xcel/Sagamore Wind Project and Roosevelt County. Imclement Weather Delay

PORTALES, NM – Due to inclement weather, Roosevelt County’s non-essential offices will open at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, October 28, 2020. This includes the Roosevelt County Clerk’s Office and early voting. State and local crews are working to clear roadways. Please drive safely and watch for heavy equipment.

The National Weather Service is forecasting snow before 3 p.m., turning to snow and sleet with possible accumulation of 2-4 inches. More snow forecasted tonight, which could be heavy at times with accumulation of 3-7 inches possible. The snow and record cold temperatures will continue with treacherous driving conditions. Roosevelt County Early Voting Alternative Site Closed

The Roosevelt County Early Voting Alternative Site held at the Jake Lopez Community Center located at 705 E. Lime St. will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 due to weather concerns. Early voting will continue at the Roosevelt County Clerk’s Office in the Roosevelt County Courthouse located at 109 W. First St. during regular business hours. The County is closely monitoring the weather and road conditions and will send out a public notice in the event of any delays or closures.
