The road department continually maintains and upgrades the transportation infrastructure throughout the county to make travel safe for all residents and visitors to Roosevelt County. The New Mexico Department of Transportation also maintains hundreds of miles of state highways within the county, and many more miles of roads and alleys are maintained by municipalities.  The road department works closely with each of these entities, the rail road, and law enforcement to maintain traffic safety.

The road department is also responsible for removal of snow in inclement weather, and assisting local fire departments in creating a fire line to contain and extinguish grass fires.
