COUNTY OF ROOSEVELT
RESOLUTION NO 08-04

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A BAN ON BURNING IN ROOSEVELT COUNTY

 WHEREAS, the Roosevelt County Commission adopted Ordinance 2007-01 which generally allowed for burning, but which allowed the Commission to prohibit burning within Roosevelt County by the adoption of a Resolution, if exceptional circumstances arose; 


 AND WHEREAS, exceptional circumstances has arisen in Roosevelt County do to a lack of precipitation, high winds, and low humidity, which makes the risk of fire in wild-land grass and fuels in all of Roosevelt County a hazardous level; 


 AND WHEREAS, the Roosevelt County Commission finds that it is necessary and desirable to implement a fire ban throughout Roosevelt County,.


 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the governing body of the County Commission of Roosevelt County that open burning, agriculture burning,  i.e. burning of crop land, fields, range land, debris burning/ piles, proscribed burning, weed burning, or other burning shall be permitted only after notice by telephone call placed to the local emergency dispatch in Portales, at least 24 hours before the scheduled burn.  The citizen giving notice shall specify exactly where and when the burn is to take place.  The citizen shall also give notice of the type of burn that is to take place, and the approximate number of acres to be burned.  The dispatcher shall then notify the fire department in the fire district in which the burn is to occur, and shall request that they stand by.


PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED THIS 5th DAY OF FEBRAURY  2008.
