Voter Registration

You must be registered at least 28 days before an election to be eligible to vote in that election. 

January 28, 2008 is the last day to change party affiliation if you plan to run for office.

To register to vote:

• You must be 18 years of age by Election Day.
• You must be a citizen of the United States.
• You must not be a felon.

Q: Do I have to select a party? 
A: No, but you must mark the check box that you are not selecting a party.

Q: Can I vote in the Primary if I do not belong to a political party? 

A: No, the primary in New Mexico is closed to major parties only (usually Democrat and Republican).

Q: Can I register to vote at an address other than my residence?
A: No, you must use the address of where you live now.

Q: Do I have to register to vote for every election? 
A: No, as long as you vote in each election cycle you are eligible to vote.
 
Q: Do I need my Voter ID card to vote? 
A: No, but if you have not received it in the mail it is a good idea to check with the clerk to see if you are registered.
